         History…

A tradition in quality food

The Kotis family began supplying the Australian market with Mediterranean food in 1965. At this time customers were predominantly expatriates and migrants from Europe. 
Demand for our olives, feta, traditional cheeses, olive oils
 and other delicacies did not come from Australians with an English-speaking background until much later.

Elco Food Company was established in 1980 to meet the needs of the growing ethnic population and the changing tastes of non-ethnic Australians.

Elco commenced operations with two employees in a warehouse of 1000 square meters. Today Elco is a 
successful and respected organization employing 
18 people in Victoria and operating from a warehouse in Clayton of 10,000 square meters. Our national network employs over 60 people.

Elco is the largest importer of feta in Australia. In 2002/2003 our imports accounted for 43% of feta Australia-wide and 69% of feta imported into Victoria. Our imports of olives make up some 20% of the total olive market. In addition to importing the best produce from around the world, we are also proud to support Australian grown and manufactured product.

Our recipe for success has been our focus on quality products, customer service, marketing and building strong relationships with our suppliers.


Quality Products

Elco prides itself on providing the finest products available. Elco has the sole Australian distribution rights for DODONI cheeses, MISKO pasta, JOTIS desserts and LOUMIDIS coffee. These products form the basis of the 300 plus lines Elco imports and distributes nationally.

Customer Service

Our team is dedicated to building strong, long-term relationships with all our customers. Our commitment to customer service is second to none. For instance, all our customers can generally count on next day delivery of their orders.

Marketing

Elco recognizes the importance of effective advertising and correctly marketing products. To this end, we target customers through mainstream and ethnic radio, newspapers and local television. In addition, a substantial amount of promotion and co-operative advertising is done with the major supermarket chains. We also regularly participate in major food fairs and expos around the country.


Suppliers

We understand that our success is attributable in no small part to our relationships with our suppliers. We are committed to building strong, long-term partnerships. The fact that we have maintained relationships with some suppliers for over 20 years is testament to this.
